What a long day! I feel like it is midnight as I write this but it is actually only a little after 6pm so not too bad. I had a shorter day of thrifting than the past two days due to a necessary grocery stop and helping in my daughters first grade class for an hour this morning but still managed to make it to the three closest Goodwill’s before it was time to pick up my little guy.
As you can see from the picture even though this is the third time I have visited these stores in three days there was still plenty of new stuff to find. It definitely pays to make daily trips this time of year if you can swing it!
Here are today’s goodies:
The best finds of the day were:
The Gemmy Rudolph singing stocking (with light up nose!) – he cost me $2.97 (and some new batteries so I could make sure he works) and I listed him for $55.
The Major Bedhead Plush from The Big Comfy Couch – he cost me $2.97 and I listed him for $75.
I also came across a bag of brand new, with tags Muffy Vanderbear plush. I had never heard of these before I started thrifting and they are somewhat longtail but they do sell eventually. And hopefully it being 4th quarter that will help them along! I paid $3.97 for the bag of four and listed them for $35, $35, $45, and $55 respectively.
Other notable mentions:
The Hershey Muffin silicone baking tray – paid $2.97 and listed for $35.
The Narnia action figure – paid $1.97 and listed for $35.
The Mitlon Bradley US Puzzle (new, of course) – paid 97 cents and listed for $35.
The Heartland Valley Village lighted barn – paid $3.97 and listed for $45.
The Bearington Brittany Blades plush – paid $1.97 and listed for $45.
The Peanuts Camp Snoopy Sally plush – paid $2.97 and listed for $40.
The Thomas Kinkade Puzzle (also new – I won’t ever bother with an open puzzle) – paid $1.97 and listed for $45.
Now for the duds:
The Olive Oyl pillow wasn’t worth listing so I tossed it. Only paid 97 cents so not a big loss there.
The Whirl Top Wonders were missing an important part of the base so therefore worthless and into the trash that went too. Paid $1.97.
The Papa Bear and Noelle Boyds set is missing Noelle so I won’t list it. Papa is in excellent condition though and really cute so I think I will hang onto to him to add to a Christmas gift – his open arms will hold a candle perfectly!
Ok … time to look at the bottom line and see how I did today!
Total items listed: 38
Total buy cost: $83.07
Total sales value: $1190.45
Total Net Profit: $806.29
So let’s see if I met my goal of (potentially) netting $100 per hour worked. I didn’t start thrifting until 11am today and went until 1:30 when I needed to get my son. Then back home and I listed from 2pm until the girls got home at 3:30, stopped to tidy up and help with homework, and back to listing for another hour while they played outside. All told I put in about 5 hours (which again included drive time between stores and eating my lunch in the car) and have enough inventory going off to Amazon to hopefully net $806.29. That shakes out to about $161 an hour which makes me very happy! And that handy coupon also netted me an adorable sugar bowl/creamer set for Christmas at one store, a Disney paint by number set which the kids have been enjoying tonight at another, and a couple of cool star shaped ice cube trays from Ikea at the third … all for free!
The purchases from today will be picked up tomorrow morning and I will be back out again for day four of what I am affectionately calling thriftapalooza 2014. I am meeting a new friend for coffee and some much needed girl talk in the morning so it will likely be a three store day again which is cool by me. Friday I hope to get to all four and end the week right!
